The Agriculture Program Officer is responsible for the operations of the HOPE Agriculture program implementing church partners. In this role, the Agriculture Program Officer will advise and support implementing Church Partners’ Program Coordinators for the HOPE Agriculture program and other HOPE regenerative agriculture activities.

Responsibilities

Promote and fulfill the mission and vision of HOPE International.

Savings Group Program Team Engagement

  • Participate in regular savings group program team meetings and planning/strategy sessions, carrying out assigned tasks and working to support team strategy.
  • Model servant-leadership in the work environment, including HOPE co-workers and ministry stakeholders.
  • Contribute to a culture that models Biblical principles and incorporates an intentional and effective Christ-centered witness in all savings group programs.
  • Encourage and model servant-like posture in relationships with field team, and church partner staff/volunteers.

HOPE Agriculture Program Operations 

  • Works alongside program staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through program implementation.
  • Effective support in managing ministry operations, including the implementation of HOPE regenerative Agriculture programs to steward resources for holistic impact while ensuring the financial health of both church partners and HOPE’s agricultural efforts.
  • Enhancement of the HOPE Agriculture program’s effectiveness by supporting the management in building relationships with like-minded organizations.

Data collection, validation, and recording

  • Assist in designing, testing, and disseminating validation tools as needed to validate data collection processes.
  • Conduct regular validation field visits as provided from the sampled saving groups.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of data filled on reporting tools and registration forms.
  • Manage the central database on HOPE Agriculture KPIs specifically for Tanzania.
  • Analyze and present to the Operations Manager key information for decision making.
  • Responsible for the documentation of success stories and best practices in collaboration with other HOPE staff and promote a culture of learning and reflective practice within program team.

Reporting

  • Prepare and submit Monthly Reports to the Operations Manager
  • Assist the program staff to meet all reporting requirements using operational reporting formats/tools.
  • Review and edit reports received from the field to ensure conformity with operations formats and all required data are available and consistent.
  • Provide feedback to program staff on reporting and recommend for corrective actions steps.

Risk detection and Management

  • Assist management in the review and identification of internal HOPE Agriculture Program control gaps.
  • Provide recommendations to the Operations Manager in the mitigation of key operational risks.
  • Assist management in the review of internal audit reports and address the concerns of Internal Audit regarding operational findings.

Spiritual Integration and Christian Witness

  • Contribute to bearing witness to Christ and His Kingdom through who we are, how we work and how we serve the church 
  • Engage actively in bi-weekly devotions, monthly meetings, and quarterly retreats for HOPE staff to maintain focus on the program’s Christ-centered mission and to foster spiritual growth among HOPE staff and partners. 
  • Ensure a personal healthy spiritual balance within family, work, and church life through the adoption of Biblical, personal, and spiritual disciplines. 

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as requested by the Country Director, manager or CSU.

Qualifications

  • Born again Christian with strong faith and highly committed to the mission and vision of HOPE International.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, community development, or equivalent, plus professional experience in Agri Faith ministry.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in program operations including the ability to create well-organized reports, accomplish objectives (as opposed to only tasks), keeping detailed records of activities and expenses, and participating in budgeting.
  • Proven leadership abilities and experience with group collaboration
  • Experience in conducting training using methods of dialogue education.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-driven with demonstrated ability to solve problems and work independently and in collaboration with a team.
  • Familiarity with microfinance and savings groups strongly preferred.
  • Fluent in spoken and written Swahili and English
  • Willing to go above and beyond out of a desire to see lives and land transformed.
