Overview

Please note: This position is based in Lilongwe, Malawi. The deadline to receive applications is Friday, 6 June 2025.

Under the Supervision of the Agriculture Coordinator, the Agriculture Officer will be the key personnel for the delivery of agriculture interventions and adhering to HOPE International Strategic objectives by church partner Field Coordinators during the implementation of project activities under Foundations for Farming and Sowers of Hope*. He/she will work closely with and provide technical support to Agriculture Field Coordinators.  

(*Foundations for Farming and Sowers of Hope equips churches with theological and technical resources so that Christian Farmers will be catalysts for nutritional, economic, environmental, and spiritual growth in their communities.)

Responsibilities

Promote and fulfill the mission and vision of HOPE International. 

Technical Support and Reporting  

  • Ensuring that all interventions are aligned with HOPE International Country Strategy, and government growth economic strategies. 
  • Provide ongoing direction and leadership for field project operations. 
  • Assist in drawing up reports and Document translations,  
  • Establish a project database as needed, and assist in communicating, updating, and collecting information on project progress.  
  • Prepare project results framework and budget. 
  • Coordinate field programs in line with annual performance goals and objectives. 
  • Assist partner Agriculture Field Coordinators with planning, executing, and documenting meetings, workshops, seminars, and other project activities with a focus on technical aspects. 
  • Support the procurement and distribution of project materials.  
  • Support, train & coach partner project staff to meet technical quality, appropriateness, and timelines. 

 

Listening, Monitoring & Evaluation  

  • Together with the Agriculture Coordinator and Senior Quality Assurance Officer, oversee monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning. 
  • Ensure that monitoring and evaluation systems enhance accountability. 
  • Ensuring evidence-based interventions are practiced, ensuring program integration among thematic areas of agriculture and food security, access to finance, and environment and climate.  

 

Networking and Collaboration  

  • Liaise with the District Authority and church partners and stakeholders. 
  • Identifying strategic partnerships to achieve the desirable change efficiently and effectively. 
  • Internally work closely with the following:
    • Operations Manager 
    • Administration and Finance Manager 
    • Agriculture Coordinator 
    • Senior Quality Assurance Officer 
    • Quality Assurance officer 
    • Administration and Finance Officer
  • Externally work closely with the following: 
    • Church Partner staff 
    • Government agriculture staff 
    • Local NGOs 

 

Savings Group Program Team Engagement 

  • Participate in regular savings group program team meetings   
  • Model servant-leadership while working with both HOPE co-workers and Church partners 
  • Contribute to a culture that models Biblical principles and incorporates an intentional and effective Christ-centered witness in all savings group programs. 

 

Spiritual Integration and Christian Witness 

  • Actively participate in bi-weekly devotions, monthly meetings, and annual retreats for HOPE staff in order to maintain a focus on the program’s Christ-centered mission and to promote spiritual growth among staff, Facilitators and SG group members. 
  • Ensure a personal healthy family and work through the adoption of Biblical, personal, spiritual disciplines. 

 

Other Duties 

  • Taking on additional duties, responsibilities or assignments that may be outside your core responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor 
  • Participate in virtual and physical meetings with HOPE’s regional and Head office staff and other partner organizations (may involve occasional international travel).

Qualifications

  • Personal confession of Christian faith and commitment to the mission and vision of HOPE International. 
  • Degree in agriculture, agronomy, agriculture Extension, crop science. 
  • The candidate should have 4-5 years of technical experience in implementing agriculture programs.  
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and work experience in conservation agriculture, catchment conservation, village savings, nutrition, and gender. 
  • Proven experience in understanding project management. 
  • Experience from NGO and/or development work. 
  • Strong networking and representation skills and proven stakeholder management skills. 
  • Excellent drafting, communication, and proven experience in managing and working with a team. 
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  • Willingness to do Field work. 
  • Willingness and ability to work with all faiths.
